Sunart Wildlife Boat Trips
Half-day boat trips from the pontoons at Salen on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula
(40 miles West of Fort William)
Our trips run on Loch Sunart, a picturesque sea loch which is 19 miles long, and flows out to the
Sound of Mull. The loch has an abundance of wildlife with sightings including White Tailed Sea Eagles, Dolphins, Seals, Common Terns, Grey Herons, Porpoises, and Red Deer to name but a few. We can't guarantee that you'll see all of these but would be disappointed if you didn't see some of them. The loch has some interesting history, including sheltered bays where Vikings wintered their long boats, sites of Iron Age hill forts, and places where chemical elements were discovered and bear their name.

Bookings in advance are highly recommended but we sometimes have spaces on the day - whichever option suits you, we'll do our best to accommodate you.
The trip lasts approx 3.5 hours, there are toilet facilities on board and bottled water will be available free of charge. You're very welcome to bring your own snacks and drinks, and Salen Jetty Shop do excellent coffee/hot drinks, home baking and snacks to takeaway. Don't forget your binoculars and camera although we do have a few pairs of binoculars available if you don't have your own.
Our trip boat Mingary is named after the steam yacht Mingary, which was moored in Salen Bay in the early 20th Century and owned by Mr Charles Rudd, the owner of the Ardnamurchan Peninsula (and was said to cost more to run than the whole estate). Our boat is a little bit smaller and is an Evolution 38. She has a side door for easy access and plenty of seating outside and a nice warm wheelhouse with seating inside. She is capable of 26 kts but cruises effortlessly at 8 kts for the trips.
